What is electromagnetic waves ?

A magnetic field and an electric field vibrate together to produce electromagnetic waves, also known as EM waves. In other words, magnetic and electric fields that are oscillating make up electromagnetic waves (EM).

And we call these waves "electromagnetic" because they have magnetic fields in addition to electric fields. We also call them "waves" because they propagate outward in accordance with wave equations, just like all the other waves we've seen.
