The Freedmen's Bill of Rights

The English Charter of Rights

The English Bill of Rights

The Magna Carta

Answers

C English bill of rights

Answer:

Magna Carta, which means ‘The Great Charter’, is one of the most important documents in history as it established the principle that everyone is subject to the law, even the king, and guarantees the rights of individuals, the right to justice and the right to a fair trial.

King John signing the Magna Carta

When was it signed?

The Magna Carta was first authorised in June 1215 at Runnymede, on the River Thames, near Windsor. Paintings depicting the signing of the document often show King John with a quill in his hand, he most likely authorised the document using the Great Seal rather than a quill.

In 1215 King John agreed to the terms of the Magna Carta following the uprising of a group of rebel barons in England.

The barons captured London in May 1215, which forced King John’s hand and caused him to finally negotiate with the group, and the Magna Carta was created as a peace treaty between the king and the rebels.

The whole document is written in Latin, and the original Magna Carta had 63 clauses. Today, only three of these remain on the statute books; one defends the liberties and rights of the English Church, another confirms the liberties and customs of London and other towns, and the third gives all English subjects the right to justice and a fair trial. The third says:

“No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land.

“To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice.”

Did it achieve its short-term goal of creating peace?

No. Although King John agreed to the Magna Carta at first, he disliked it when its terms were forced upon him.

He wrote to the Pope to get it annulled, who agreed with John despite the strain between the King and the Church at the time. The Pope called the Magna Carta “illegal, unjust, harmful to royal rights and shameful to the English people”. He then declared the charter “null and void of all validity for ever”.

Full-scale civil war then broke out between John and his barons. It only ended after John's death from illness in 1216.

A second version of the Magna Carta was issued by Henry III in 1225, which was granted explicitly in return for a tax payment from the whole kingdom.

Salisbury Cathedral is home to one of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta

Why is it significant today?

The Magna Carta is considered one of the first steps taken in England towards establishing parliamentary democracy.

In the century after Henry III’s version of the Magna Carta, parliament interpreted the document’s message as a right to a fair trial for all subjects.

During the Stuart period, and particularly in the English Civil War, the Magna Carta was used to restrain the power of monarchs at a time when monarchs on the continent were supremely powerful.

Magna Carta in the American Bill of Rights, written in 1791. To this day there is a 1297 copy in the National Archives in Washington DC.

Even more recently, the basic principles of the Magna Carta are seen very clearly in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, penned in 1948 just after the Second World War.

Baseball was referred to as what in the 1920s?

Answers

Answer:

Baseball was referred to as America's Pastime. It gained this name because it became so popular in the 1920s that Americans could not watch or play it enough that it seemed this was all they did during leisure.

32. Two reasons for the increase in High school enrolment were;

Increase in number of Public Schools - The United States from 1910 onwards placed an emphasis on secondary education after the previous successes of elementary education. They believed that secondary educated citizens were the keystone to economic development and empowerment and to that end began the construction of many more public high schools which led to increased enrolment. Decentralization of Schooling - The division of the US into schooling districts led to competition amongst them not to be left behind. They therefore pushed for more schools to be built in their districts to educate more of their students which led to many more students enrolling in high school.

what term doesn't belong : gunpowder, calvary, fake retreat, psychological warfare

Answers

Answer:

10 Explanation:

here you go

Answer:

Calvary

Explanation:

I Think its Calvary because gunpowder, psychological warfare, and fake retreat are acts during war that can influence your enemy but the Calvary is a title of horsemen that charge into battle.

Gunpowder affects the mind after a while making you woozy during battle and you start to get headaches from it (especially during the 1800's nobody drank water really).

Psychological warfare can instill fear into the hearts of your enemy for instance Vlad the Impaler impaled over 1000 prisoners on the way to his fortress which instilled so much fear into the Ottoman army they turned back.

A fake retreat can make any enemy chase after you and if you have another army not too far away you can cut down the very tired imposing army.

what overall impression of england does bede create

Answers

Answer:

St. Bede is best known for his Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum (“Ecclesiastical History of the English People”), a source vital to the history of the conversion to Christianity of the Anglo-Saxon tribes. The Anglo-Saxons also brought their own religious beliefs, but the arrival of Saint Augustine in 597 converted most of the country to Christianity. The Anglo-Saxon period lasted for 600 years, from 410 to 1066, and in that time Britain's political landscape underwent many changes. Draw three specific comparisons. Epics often center on a battle between good and evil. Find evidence in lines 173-198 to indicate Beowulf is battling for good against evil. ... Grendel's defeat describes Beowulf killed all the evil from the world and the sorrow, grief, and suffering.

Although there are no options attached, we can answer the following.

I was sent to travel with Washington as I was familiar with the area, having been there when I worked for the Ohio Company." Who am I?

The answer is Christopher Gist.

Christopher Gist(1706-1759) was an explorer and pioneer of the Ohio country. So it is correct that he knew very well the Ohio territory and was of much help to George Washington. He had been exploring many regions of what today are parts of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Ohio.

He became an important assistant of George Washington, acted as his guide in those difficult territories during the French and English War, and historians said that Gist was at the right time and place to save Washington's life two times in those expeditions.
