Student Guide
Assignment Summary
For this assignment, you will read a modified excerpt from the Rig Veda and use supporting details and
evidence to write a brief essays that explores how Aryans and Indians justified the use of the caste
system.
Background Information
Once the Aryans had a written language, they began to record their oral histories. Aryans recorded oral
histories in sacred books called Vedas. The Vedas are books of knowledge that contain hymns and
stories. The hymns were part of Aryan religious rituals. The Aryans religion was called Brahmanism. The
Aryans worshipped nature with rituals and praise. They believed the gods represented forces of nature,
such as wind or storms. Brahmanism grew into the modern religion of Hinduism. The ideas in the Vedas
became the key ideas of Hinduism. Hinduism is one of the largest religions in the world today and still
practiced in much of India.
The Aryans had a caste system, which still influences India today. A caste system is a class structure
based on money, birth, and occupation. The Aryans believed each person was born into a specific varna.
People could not move between classes in the caste system.
At the top of society were the priests, called the Brahman. They had the highest status and the most
power. They could read from and teach the Vedas. Next came the rulers and warriors, who could study
the Vedas. This varna is called the Rājanya. They were almost as powerful as the priests. The next varna
down included merchants, landowners, and craftspeople. These are the Vaiśya. Finally, at the bottom
were peasants, servers, and other workers. This varna is called the Śūdra. They had little power. A fifth
group—the Untouchables—were outside the castes. They did work that was called “unclean,” like
gravedigging, fishing, butchering animals for meat, and street sweeping. They were kept apart from
everyone else.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Details which support the Aryans' and Indians' use of the caste system are that Aryans were the superior race under the Third Reich. They were superior in terms of technology and science, so their use of a caste system was entirely justified. Heinrich Himmler designed this caste system to be as efficient as possible. As far as the Indian caste system, native Americans have been casting pottery since the dawn of time, so it makes sense that they would have a caste system to support their society. Can you imagine making friendship pipes without a system in place? It is for those reasons that the Aryans' and Indians' caste systems were used and I fully support that use.

What was a result of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff? Many nations retaliated by raising their own tariffs. o . The US stock market crashed. There was an increase in world trade. American industry recovered.

Answers

Answer:

Your answer is A

Explanation:

Many nations retaliated by raising their own tariffs was a result of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff. Thus, option (a) is correct.

Smoot-Hawley Tariff was that several countries increased their own tariffs in retaliation, which caused an international trade freeze as import costs rose. Due to this, there was a considerable decline in international trade, which exacerbated the impacts of the Great Depression.

At least 25 nations responded by raising their own taxes on American goods in response to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which boosted import tariffs to the US by nearly 20%. Exports decreased as a result, dropping from $7 billion in 1929 to a record low of $2.1 billion in 1933.

Therefore, option (a) is correct.

The Constitutional Convention

By the time the Constitutional Convention met in Philadelphia in 1787, it had become clear to many American leaders that a more powerful federal government was necessary in order to effectively deal with the challenges facing the young nation.

Under the Articles of Confederation, the central government had neither the power to raise taxes nor the authority to regulate interstate commerce. Additionally, there was no established mechanism through which states could adjudicate conflicts. Many of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention understood that the Articles of Confederation would need to be supplanted entirely, not merely revised.

To this end, the delegates spent months debating and shaping the scope and contours of a new and more powerful federal government.^1
